Bird Book ~ New Life page

Here’s another page I made in June for my felt Bird Book.

I’ve used several layers: burlap, an old book page, green graph paper with Elegant Touch Art Stencil and Tsukineko Walnut Ink, stitched on glass beads, striped paper punched with Martha Stewart’s Fence Edge Punch, and a bird image from an bird book accented with “x” stitches.

All these layers are mounted on thick felt, which will make up another page of my felt Bird Book. To see the other page of this book, visit the blog post Migration Page.

May you be blessed with a creative and colorful day!,

Featuring Abby Bastedo

Today I’m featuring a wonderful woman, lovely friend and talented designer,

Abby Bastedo

Her work is the ultimate in feminine style. Delicate laces, ruffled ribbons and sweet flowers adorn most of her beautiful creations. She thinks, and probably dreams, out-of-the-box. Her unique ideas and romantic touches draw women in, her sweet words and thoughts keep us coming back for more. Abby’s love of the details of life combined with her naturally creative mind and talented hands create a world of pretty little things that I call, Abbylicious!

And now I’ll let her marvelous art inspire you through these special pieces that she’s created using Layers of Color art stamps…

Paper purse with Vintage Roses as handles.

A floral wreath card made with Vintage Roses.

A mini message board featuring roses made with Vintage Roses.

(See Abby’s blog for the flower how-to)

A lovely place to tuck in a calling card or love note.

A memory album made with love and a dove of hope from Royal Birds.

Dreams of a fairytale dress adorned with Vintage Roses.

Wednesday Stamper challenge this week is to make artwork that is 2″ X 4″. I’m honored that the hostess, Patty has featured Layers of Color art stamps in her gorgeous sample art this week. Thank you, Patty!

My inspiration started with a pair of beautiful birds from one of my bird books. I cut them out and applied them to my 2 X 4 decorated background. Layers of Color Architectural Blocks art stamps add the detail along the upper edges and the frame is Layers of Color Beaded Frames highlighted with white gel pen. I finished it off with a corner punch in the top corners and used the punch waste for the bottom corners.

I may add this to a special card or other mixed media piece in the future.

New artwork added to the Designer Galleries and Stamper’s Gallery, come visit and be inspired!

Have a colorful day!

Bird Books

When I go to a second hand shop, I head to the book section first. I look for old books about birds, the ones with the colored illustrations. Now that I have duplicates of two of them, I feel better about tearing up the pages. Today, from the pages of one book, I made two small books (each  3″ X 4″). I was inspired by Anna’s tutorial on making accordion fold books.

She clearly explained how to make this simple and easy project. I used pages from one of my bird books as front and back covers. The background is tinted with chalks and inks, stamped with Layers of Color Beaded Frames, Architectural Blocks and Gothic Crosses art stamps, and accented with opaque white gel pen.

I used textured wallpaper (also found at a second hand shop)for the signature (inside of book), which I spray painted and rubbed with colored ink pads. The paper is smooth on one side for easy writing.

After working on project after project for work, it felt great to learn something new and just create for fun with no particular purpose in mind for my artwork. I think I’ll make more books as Christmas and birthday gifts.

I enjoyed this artful experience. Thanks, Anna!

Pink in the Springtime

Pink in the Springtime SkinnyThis week’s theme at Theme Thursday is the color combination of pink and brown. I created a bird Skinny in celebration of springtime.

This is a shared mother and daughter blog, today’s art is created by Laura, the Mama.

My Skinny is based on cardboard and cardstock with embossed wallpaper. I’ve added bird and nest images cut-out from a Dover book, stamped with Layers of Color Architectural Block stamp, colored with markers, chalks, pencils, and embellished with an earring finding. Happy spring!
