Until then, here’s a card I made using the Spellbinders Decorative die template we designed along with more sneak peaks of NinaBDesigns new release!…

Nina’s Beautiful Lace stamp set adds the delicate touch to this card (Available exclusively at Layers of Color Nov 16th). I’ve used Spellbinders Decorative Dress Forms die template. The stand is one of Nina’s die designs, Spellbinders Elegant Posts (we have these in stock and they will be available at a great price on Wed. Nov. 16th)! Also available exclusively at Layers of Color will be this sparkling purple Angel’s Twine that has a lovely golden metallic thread twisted through it! I’ve used VersaFine Imperial Purple ink and KandCompany floral and striped papers.

Ooo, so much excitement to share…such fun!

Vintage Roses Ornament by Laura Kirste Campbell

This lovely paper ornament is easy and fun to make. The Spellbinder’s die templates make cutting out the shapes a breeze. Imagine all the variations of color you could use to make different styles. For a Spring theme, use  a butterfly instead of the angel. See “Bees and Butterflies” in the Layers of Color boutique for many wonderful options for this project!

MATERIALS:

• Paper – Ivory card stock
• Stamps – Layers of Color Vintage Roses and Angelic art stamp sets
• Inks – VersaFine Vintage Sepia, Prismacolor pencils PC912 Apple Green and PC1045 Metallic Purple
• Spellbinders die templates – smallest Grand Scallop Circles and #1 Circles (cuts 2 1/2″ circle)
• Embellishments – Acrylic bead, Feather Twine
• Other – Spellbinders Grand Calibur die cut machine, scissors, glue, acrylic block for stamping

INSTRUCTIONS:

Place small circle die inside scallop circle die, center and measure, then lightly tape both die templates to card stock. This keeps them in place when running through the cutting machine.

Put through the cutting machine. Punch out the resulting scallop paper ring.

You can use the taped die templates to repeat this process.

Make a total of 6 scallop rings.

Using Vintage Roses arch stamp and Vintage Sepia ink, stamp roses along inside circle.

Notice that the stamp image isn’t on top of the scallops, but is off the edge of the inner circle edge.

Turn the ring around and stamp again creating a ring of roses.

You may have a little overlapping at the ends of the arches, but it will be covered up with color later.

Repeat stamping on all 6 rings.

Using Metallic Purple and Apple Green Prismacolor pencils, color in roses and leaves.

When coloring, use a gentle circular motion, coloring the roses lightly all over and then apply more pressure in the centers to create the feeling of depth in the flowers. Be general and quick with all the coloring, precision isn’t necessary.

Fold all 6  rings in half, with colored side to inside.

Match all scallops evenly when folding and be sure the fold creases a scallop in half as shown.

Fold all 6 rings in half with crease in center of a scallop.

With uncolored sides together, glue two rings together matching scallops and fold creases as shown.

Continue gluing all 6 rings together in the same manner.

Do not connect the first ring to the last ring, yet.

String bead onto Feather Twine. Slide to center of twine.

Position the beaded twine over the first and last rings (not glued together) .

On Ivory card stock with Vintage Sepia ink, and the winged cherub from

Angelic art stamp set, stamp two angels.

Cut out the angels and stamp the backs as well. Don’t worry about accuracy when stamping the back, this is just because the back of the wings will show a little. Slightly fold up each angel wing as shown.

Apply glue to the angel’s head and collar only. Position in the center of the circle and glue to the twine, back to back with the twine sandwiched in between the angels. Check position on the twine in relation to the rings before gluing…

Glue angels to to the twine in the center of the rings.

Then with solid sides together, glue the first and last rings together, completing the circle.

Open the rings so that they are spaced evenly.

Tie ends of Feather Twine in a small knot and hang your Vintage Roses Ornament!

I had fun coloring this Angelic image with Prismacolor pencils and VersaFine inks. It fits perfectly into Spellbinders Labels Fourteen die template and is framed with lovely Floral Doily Motif and K&Company papers.

Splashes of vibrant colors spilling all over the paper…getting inky with sunny orange, joyous pink and calming greens…what fun! This tutorial shows you how to easily make your own Splash Paper, which is perfect for all your colorful creative paper projects.

MATERIALS:

• White card stock 80 – 120lb
• Tsukineko Memento 0.5oz re-inker bottles in your choice of 3 colors (For this tutorial I used ~ Tangelo 200,Rosebud 400 ~ Pear Tart 703 ~ 2 warm colors and 1 cool color)
• Spray mist  bottle filled with water
• Paper towels
• Oven and iron ~ optional

On a protected surface, stack 2 sheets of white card stock on top of each other and lay them down on your surface. You will be creating 2 pieces of Splash Paper at the same time. You add color to the top sheet and the bottom sheet will automatically get created at the same time as it absorbs the ink from the paper above it.

With the Memento re-inker bottle in one hand and the spray mist bottle in the other, squeeze both at the same time (gently on the ink). As the drops of ink land on the paper, spray water on the ink causing the ink to spread out. Repeat this over the entire sheet of paper.

As the paper gets soaked with water, dab with paper towels to absorb the puddles.

Continue inking and spraying over the entire sheet of paper. Dab well with paper towels.

This left side shows the paper that was underneath and the right side shows the paper that was inked. It’s great to get two from one project! I’ve tried three, but it doesn’t absorb enough ink to create an lovely effect like these.

Let dry flat overnight or put on the oven rack for 10minutes at 250 degrees. Once dry they will have curled edges. I iron mine flat with a hot iron on cotton setting.

TIP: You can also dry and use the paper towels as a colorful, affordable and interesting texture to add to your projects.

Door Gems are cut from card stock (3 from 81/2X11), edge punch bottom, circle punch top, decorate and distress with Memento inks and markers. Add sparkle with a spray mist of Tsukineko’s Shimmer Spritz!

Reindeer Prance Card

The inspiration for this card started with Tsukineko’s tri-color Christmas themed ink pad called, Noel. It has red, gold and green on one pad! Then I was excited to discover how to create a Poinsettia with a flower stamp and a silhouette from a clear stamp!

Card Detail

I used Layers of Color Nature Walk art stamp with Noel ink to create the designer paper, I ran it through Swiss Dots dry embossing folder, and then lightly dragged the Brilliance Galaxy Gold ink pad over the top of the raised dots. I dry embossed vellum and enhanced it with the gold as well. The black/white ribbon is 7 Gypsies Gaffer tape.

To create the silhouette, I stamped Layers of Color Reindeer Waltz art stamp onto black paper, cut it out and turned it over so that it becomes a silhouette. I placed it on an oval of brown paper that was dry embossed with dots and inked over with black ink on the raised dots and along the edge.

Flower Detail

The flowers were made with Brilliance Galaxy Gold ink on red paper using Layers of Color Nature Walk art stamp. I cut them out, bent the petals and stacked them so that they created Poinsettias. The center is black Fun Flock.

The snowflake is a cuttlebug die and the center is an upholstery tack with the nail cut off the back. I used Martha Stewart’s edge punch on black paper for the lacy edging.

Birdday Party Invitation

I mixed and sprayed my own colors on white, black and blue cardstock. Stamps are Layers of Color Birdday Party.

The shimmer is delicate and especially delightful on black paper!

Under The Sea Card

Layers of Color Beaded Frames and Under the Sea art stamps are featured in this card. The shell is stamped lightly in orange ink and then cut out and edged with black marker and shadowed with orange ink and a Fantastix applicator. I blended several colors on the background paper and then embossed with a Cuttlebug folder. This is a unique feature of Ink Potion No. 9 that makes it a very creative art material. I love it!

This photo does not give the full sparkling effect, but when it’s embossed like this, it’s wonderful! Also notice the irregular effect of the blue spray on white paper, this also has a delicate shimmer. Perfect for a water look!

Birdday Party Card

Nesties are stacked and highlighted with gel pen and black marker. Stamp is Layers of Color Birdday Party colored in and glitter glue added to the heart.

Polka Dot Love

As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, Tsukineko has just released a really fun new product called, Ink Potion No. 9. It’s a mix-your-own color and sparkle spray that can also be applied directly to paper with their pen applicator called, Fantastix. Isn’t the superfine sparkle lovely!!

Paper Garden

Out of white foam core board I cut out the pot, leaves, stem, and a circle at the top of the stem. They’re all cut as one piece. I sprayed various colors of Ink Potion No. 9 on white cardstock, stamped in black ink with Layers of Color Polka Dot Love art stamps and cut them out. I then bent them slightly, stacked and glued them together making a colorful bloom! I glued on a metal button as a flower center. I set this aside as I decorated the pot and leaves.

I used a Stencil Method to decorate the pot. I sprayed it with a pretty blue Ink Potion No. 9. Then I cut punched out circles from cardstock and laid them on top of the pot and sprayed it again with brown. When I removed the circles there were blue polka dots! Black Sharpie marker was used to edge and define the shape of the pot.

For the leaves I used the Fantastix to dip into the Ink Potion No. 9 colors and “paint” them on. The brush tip works well for the larger areas of color and the bullet point tip makes easy polka dots. Black Sharpie marker was used to edge and define the leaves.

I added a gift tag (also sprayed with color) to create a delightful gift for Susan at Tsukineko.

Stenciling Method Using Ink Potion No. 9

Here’s a background page I created using a Stencil Method with Ink Potion No. 9. It’s really fun, and easier than it looks! I made a stencil out of cardstock by cutting a circle in the center of the page. I laid it down on my paper surface and sprayed it with IPN9. I made a few spheres of each color, overlapping them for visual color blending. The results is like a candy shop of color!! This background page can now be stamped and cut to your wildest dreams! (See above flower as an example)

You can get an idea of the superfine sparkle that happens with Ink Potion No. 9. But, as taking photographs of glittering surfaces is difficult, this isn’t even close to the “ohh” and “aww” that you express when you see the actual effect in person! Try it, I know you’ll LOVE it as much as I do!!
