Layers of Color May Guest Designer

Nina Brackett

has created two lovely cards to share today…

“Thinking of You” incorporates a hip color combo of yellow and purple.

Layers of Color stamp set, Butterfly Collector stacked, cut out and accented with pearls.

“Happiness is Having a Friend Like You”

Butterfly Collector art stamp flutters off the card in three cheerful colors and yet they are delicately grounded with pearl accents. The sunny yellow vines are Layers of Color Nature Walk art stamps.

Reindeer Prance

Reindeer Prance Card

The inspiration for this card started with Tsukineko’s tri-color Christmas themed ink pad called, Noel. It has red, gold and green on one pad! Then I was excited to discover how to create a Poinsettia with a flower stamp and a silhouette from a clear stamp!

Card Detail

I used Layers of Color Nature Walk art stamp with Noel ink to create the designer paper, I ran it through Swiss Dots dry embossing folder, and then lightly dragged the Brilliance Galaxy Gold ink pad over the top of the raised dots. I dry embossed vellum and enhanced it with the gold as well. The black/white ribbon is 7 Gypsies Gaffer tape.

To create the silhouette, I stamped Layers of Color Reindeer Waltz art stamp onto black paper, cut it out and turned it over so that it becomes a silhouette. I placed it on an oval of brown paper that was dry embossed with dots and inked over with black ink on the raised dots and along the edge.

Flower Detail

The flowers were made with Brilliance Galaxy Gold ink on red paper using Layers of Color Nature Walk art stamp. I cut them out, bent the petals and stacked them so that they created Poinsettias. The center is black Fun Flock.

Close Up

The snowflake is a cuttlebug die and the center is an upholstery tack with the nail cut off the back. I used Martha Stewart’s edge punch on black paper for the lacy edging.

Eggcellent Tradition!

“He has risen!” and the receiver responds with “He has risen indeed!”

Easter is coming and as we know, it’s not all about the bunny and his eggs, but about our Lord and Savior, who rose from His tomb on the third day. A family tradition of ours is have an egg exchange. Together we spend the day sitting around the table and dying and decorating eggs. When we’ve finished, we hand our personalized egg to our secret someone (who’s name we pulled from a hat), we state: “He has risen!”, and the receiver responds with, “He has risen indeed!”

This paper-mache egg was honestly made with myself in mind. It is all my favorite colors and textures, wrapped in copper paint, ribbons, flowers and feathers. I created a leaf nest for the egg to rest and decorated an old candlestick with paint, glitter and ribbons. The end result turned out to be an eggcellent Easter display (LOL – I had to say it!)

This would be a wonderful project to do with family or friends. If you decorate hard boiled eggs you can use the stands to display them each year, or you can decorate paper-mache eggs and can add to your collection every Easter.

Valentine for my Loving Husband

…Or “Hoving Lusband” as he playfully likes to refer to himself. Either way, I thought this would be a nice surprise for him hanging on his closet door or rear view car mirror on Valentine’s Day. The oval represents a large “O” as in a big hug and the “X” represents a kiss. I wrote a love note on the back. I chose colors that blend well with our bedroom. Find a combination that speaks from your heart and share it with your love.

Black trim, tassel and vintage rick-rack
Silver bead and pearls recycled from costume jewelry
Glitter letter “X”

Cut oval approx. 5 3/4″ X 3 3/4″. Stamp Fleur Heart in white and go over several times with the opaque pens. Trims and letter are glued using tacky glue and hot glue. The UNIQUE TECHNIQUE used in this project are the inset pearls. I punched multiple holes with a Cropodile hole punch, then using the flat end of a screwdriver I forced the pearls into the holes making sure that the bead hole didn’t show. The result is a great tactile bumpy effect. The pearls along with the raised area of puffy ink and separated letter makes this a wonderful technique as a gift for someone who is blind.
