Faith Art Friday ~ Faith ATCs

Today’s Faith Art Friday is hosted by Layers of Color Designer, Melisa Waldorf:

ATC by Melisa Waldorf

“Hello ladies!  I’m so excited to be hosting Faith Art Friday.  Today I am sharing some Faith Art ATC’s.  If you are not familiar with ATC’s (2 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ Artist Trading Cards) then feel free to hop over to my blog for more infomation and some background tutorials.  My goal is to fill up one of the 7 Gypsies Revolving ATC holders with faith art.  I find such joy in expressing my love for God through my art.  I also find great joy in expressing my love for Him through worship music.

“OH, sing to the Lord a new song!  For He has done marvelous things.”  Psalm 89:1

ATC by Melisa Waldorf

Music is such a huge part of my worship.  Most of the time when I am creating I am listening to worship music.  It’s always on in my car.  What joy fills my heart as I sing words of praise to my Savior.   Words that acknowledge His holiness and faithfulness, and express my great love for Him.  I am not great at expressing myself with words and I am so thankful for those who have the gift of words and song.  I am thankful that God has given them this gift so that they can  share it with the rest of us.  I hope that you will join me in praising our Lord and Savior throughout the week with song and experience the peace and joy that it brings.

Have a blessed week!”

Farewell to Layers of Color Challenge Blog

Our last theme on Layers of Color Challenge Blog was posted today. I’ve enjoyed coming up with themes, making inspiration art for the blog, commenting on every entry, and making galleries of all the fabulous artwork. But, the best memories of the last six months of hosting the blog are the friendships I’ve made around the world! What a unique way to share common passions with distant artists I otherwise would never have met. I’ve learned, I’ve been inspired, and I’ve felt accepted, encouraged and loved.

Since we’ve become birds of a feather sticking together, and I have a triple tie for the winner of the most entries, I’ve created three ATCs as gifts for my fine feathered friends.

INSPiRE

Inspire Skinny with ATCThe iridescence of multi-colored silk, and a few great old photographs inspired my Skinny Saturday this week. The theme is, Be Inspired with the additional challenge to incorporate an Artist Trading Card into the creation. I was inspired!

This is a shared mother and daughter blog, today’s art is created by Laura, the Mama.

Obvious beauty is inspiring but, so is the ordinary, like colors in shadows. The white Poodle with it’s golden shadows might inspire an artist to…paint a dog!Skinny and ATC Separated Artist Trading Card

Inspired to PaintSilks, decorative papers, Layers of Color Fleur Heart stamp, Staz-on ink, copies of old photographs, butterfly image copied on acetate, metal brads, stitching and rhinestones were used to make this 3×5 skinny.ATC in Butterfly Pocket

Fleur Butterfly ATCs

ATCs are … another blank canvas to splatter all of my creativity.

Fleur ATC Series

ATCs are so addictive because they’re so small and can be done so quickly. It’s easy to get carried away with all the possibilities. I know… Two-and-a-half inches by three inches may seem small, but it’s another blank canvas to splatter all of my creativity. Not to mention having my own trading card definitely makes me feel more like a “Pro.” Think about it: big-time baseball and football players have trading cards, so why can’t I have them, too?!

This week, while I was hopped-up on an ATC flurry, I did a 3-piece ATC series on butterflies. I stamped the fleur heart on velum, then cut and organized it into a few fleur butterfly designs. Velum is really a great way to visually “stack” textures and designs on any background. I chose a crackle background which I painted on actual playing cards. Because of the card’s glossy finish they hold the many layers of paint required to get the crackle effect. This week, I hope you catch the ATC bug and craft away on those tiny canvases.Fleur ButterflyFleur Twin Butterflies
