Outside the Lines


She Always Colored Outside the LinesWednesday Stamper challenged me to put stripes on my stamped artwork today. I had the beginnings of this idea floating around in my head, and this was the perfect time to execute it. “She Always Colored Outside the Lines” is a house-shaped mixed-media piece using Layers of Color Art Stamps.


Love Card, Mixed Media Monday


This was a blast! Thank you Mixed Media Monday gals for the inspiration. Today’s theme, if you did not guess already, is playing cards. I used our fabulous Layers of Color Architectural Blocks, Flower Child and Gothic Crosses sets. While the stamp ink was still wet I sprinkled sparkles to add some glam. Sweet Words


Sweeter Than HoneyThe new challenge blog, Inchy by Inch has asked us to add a word to our Inchies this week; I added a few. I used scripture about God’s Word tasting as sweet as honey for my transparent bee Inchie (1″ x 1″ art). I also added Layers of Color Fleur Heart stamp. Be sure to look at my Inchie gallery for lots more tiny art with a big impact!

Bugs, Jewels in my Garden


Some bugs are like jewels in my garden, butterflies with colorful wings, dragonflies’ iridescent bodies and beetles with shells like colored metal. I’m fascinated with the study of insects, and I collect them as an enthusiastic bugologist (“entomologist”, if you want to be formal). Anyway, I was in my studio creating bug and bird ATCs with Layers of Color stamps when Wednesday Stamper had a challenge to create artwork with bugs! Buzzing with excitement, I photographed those I’ve done so far. If you like them, you can see more in my galleries where I also have bug Inchies!

Mixed Media Monday & Layers of Color Challenge


This is so exciting! We have a challenge blog of our own, Layers of Color Challenge. A new theme will be posted each first and third Saturday of every month and continue for one week. So please join with us in sharing our “Works of Heart”. Mixed Media Mondays theme was hats and our Layers of color theme was humor. With this fun combination I created an altered page in my soon-to-be Mother’s Day altered book (Mama, this is just a sneak peak). I used the Layers of Color Beaded Frames stamps to add more movement and fun to my pages.

They Make Me Laugh!


Since today is the Grand Opening of our new Layers of Color Challenge Blog, several of my family members have joined in the fun of participating! What a special, supportive and creative family I belong to…and the best part, they make me laugh!

First, we have artwork from Linda and Dave, my wonderful parents-in-law. Their inspiration is from life’s “senior moments!” For their first attempt at altered art, they colored a vintage photograph with acrylics and watercolors, stamped the fish and “bubbles” with Layers of Color stamps, added quilling (Linda’s current favorite art form) and colorful handmade paper. Bravo! It’s delightfully altered, and funny, too! Maude and Elmer Misread the Invitation
What do you call a line of four rabbits... My nine-year-old son, nicknamed Eagle, loves jokes and made his artwork on watercolor paper with acrylics, Layers of Color stamps, and cut out Dover rabbits. Both the artist and his art bring joy and laughter to people’s lives!
My eleven-year-old daughter, nicknamed Dove, enjoyed making her first altered art. She altered a vintage photograph using acrylics, pencil, Layers of Color stamps , decorative scissors, and a photocopy from a Dover book. (No, I’m sorry Honey, you can’t keep it. Take it back to where you found it.) But, the artist and the wonderful artwork are “keepers!”

Can I Keep It?

I created a birthday card for my special sister-in-law. I also altered a vintage photograph using chalk powders and ink, pencil, Layers of Color stamps, decorative scissors, trim and metal tacks. It reads, “Distract the eye, and they won’t notice the grey.” Although she, may not follow the card’s advice, I’m sure my sister-in-law will laugh out loud!

This has been such a hoot, creating silly art with my family! I encourage you to gather your friends and family around the table, spread out some copies of old photos and art supplies, and make some humorous art together!


New Challenge Blog This Saturday, April 19, 2008


On each 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month we’ll post a new theme for our art challenge and randomly select a participant to receive a Layers of Color clear stamp set, FREE!

Have you found that you make art for challenges and they end up in a drawer? What’s unique about our challenges is that we encourage you to create art, share it on our blog, then offer it to someone you would like to bless! Here’s an opportunity to make art and make someone’s day! So gather up your friend’s and family’s birthday lists, and other reasons to celebrate, and let’s put some art in their lives!

Remember, a RAK (Random Act of Kindness) is also one of the best ways to make the world a better place. You can even keep the originals if you like, just make a copy and apply it to a card, gift or put it in a frame. Often I make two at a time so we both have originals. Of course, you can still participate if you don’t gift your art, because creating and sharing artwork is a gift to the viewer!

Our art is the gift we were given by God, multiplied in our hearts and donated to the world.

Please respect our family blog by not including; indecent exposure, witches, ghosts, goddesses, or other expressions that fall outside our biblical standards. “…whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from God, or seen in God – put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.” The Holy Bible, Book of Philippians, Chapter 4, verses 8 and 9.

As our first challenge I suggest that we add some Humorous Art to someone’s life! Let’s multiply the giggles in the world, make someone laugh out loud and smile all over! Use at least one stamp to create a card, book, jewelry, mixed media, RAK, scrapbook page, Skinny (3″ x 5″), or any handmade creation. If you choose to gift your art, share with us how you gave from your heart with your works of art!

Ask your friends to join us, make it a group challenge! We look forward to seeing the artwork your beautiful creative minds create, and spreading some joy in the world. I’m sure the blessings from the comments will touch all our hearts.
