Clothe Yourself

I thought about good characteristics as the finest clothing we can wear, for the Torso/Mannequin theme for Theme Thursday this week.

Vintage EarringMannequin Clothed in Good CharacterNo matter what is fashionable, or what shape our body is in, it’s not our outward appearance that truly says who we are, it’s our character that displays it for all to see.

Gutter StrainerMy 5″ mannequin is made from a gutter strainer, ribbon spool, paper, ribbons, feather, velvet leaf, fabric flower, and my grandmother’s vintage earring. The verse around the base reads:

Therefore, as God’s, chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothes yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience

Colossians 3:12

My creation was inspired by a wonderful gift given to me by my very creative friend, Heather. She made a bird pincushion from an old sweater and placed it on a fabulous pedestal. Please take a look at her beautiful artwork in the photo below and visit her blog, listed in my “Favorite Blogs”. Artistic friends are a special gift. Thank You, Heather!Heather

Laura, your mannequin is quite wonderful and clever. I love the thought behind it as well! Your friend’s gift of that precious sweater bird in so lovely too!

Oh Laura…I am just breathless when I look at your mannequin. So much creativity and oh how elegant! I can envision your piece being used by a Victorian woman. She gently clips her earrings to it after a long night at the opera. Fabulous, simply (if not so much so) fabulous!

MY – MY ! I never knew another artist who shopped at the hardware store so much. I have see this delightfully blue creation in person and it is stunning. First I must say that the colors are my favorites. The clever use of the strainer is a srtoke of Genius. The scripture verse that goes with it beautiful. KEEP IT UP!
