Kings & Queens, 4×4 Friday

Welcome to my fellow Kings and Queens. Here is my royal 4×4. I could not resistQueens these King and Queen antique playing cards. And the thought of Kings and Queens brought to mind elaborate crowns, so over the antique Kings and Queens I created two crowns using the Layers of Color Fleur heart stamp. Kings

Pink in the Springtime

Pink in the Springtime SkinnyThis week’s theme at Theme Thursday is the color combination of pink and brown. I created a bird Skinny in celebration of springtime.

This is a shared mother and daughter blog, today’s art is created by Laura, the Mama.

My Skinny is based on cardboard and cardstock with embossed wallpaper. I’ve added bird and nest images cut-out from a Dover book, stamped with Layers of Color Architectural Block stamp, colored with markers, chalks, pencils, and embellished with an earring finding. Happy spring!

What a Buzz!

Haute Handbags Magazine - Spring 2008Queen Bee Purse - Page 136What a Buzz! My Queen Bee purse has been published in Stampington’s Spring 2008 issue of Haute Handbags! It’s featured on a full page, (pg. 136) if you pick up copy.

Some of the special features of this purse are that it’s made of linen and silk, the bees are boullion embroidery with copper fabric wings. Jewelry, stamps and a honey drop bead accents the bee. A Unique Technique used on this purse is that the large wings are made from natural skeleton leaves sandwiched between layers of sheer copper fabric, then stitched along the edges.

I love the image of bees and their symbolism. Since antiquity, bees have been held in high regard. It’s the heraldic emblem of the kings of France and the Barberini princes. Bees were attributed many human qualities, including industriousness, valor and chastity. Christian tradition has a fascination with these little insects also. Some saints are compared to bees for their good works or the sweetness of their words. Historically in art, a bee alludes to the image of Christ and his forgiveness of mankind’s sins.

My kitchen is decorated with a pair of red shutters painted with bees and this bible verse, which refers to God’s Word,

“How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!”

Psalm 119:103

Legacy of Silliness

Gothic Arches theme this week is Heritage. My family has a legacy of silliness that I joyfully pass on to the next generation! It’s one of our favorite characteristics about our family.A Legacy of Silliness

This is a shared mother and daughter blog, today’s art is created by Laura, the Mama. My eldest daughter, Jessica turned 22 years old yesterday, Easter Day. Happy Birthday Honey! This post is dedicated to you!

This gothic arch image is from our family photographs. They are all women friends of my maternal grandmother, dressed up and acting silly. I enhanced that playfulness with watercolors, acrylics, stamps, metal and fiber embellishments.Silly Women Friends...Like Extended Family

A Fresh Attitude

Hanging Lavender SachetWomen at work is the theme this week for Skinny Saturday. I made a lavender sachet with my skinny. I printing the image of a hard-working wash-woman on linen and embellished it, then displayed it on a miniature wire hanger.

Life has taught me that what matters most is not what job I have, but the attitude with which I do my work. Even in a stinky job, a great disposition can freshen the work environment with a sweet fragrance.
